week in week out

Saturday, January 25th, 2003

The winter weather just keeps on coming, not cold, but grey and the occasional wet. Still managed to see some sunshine on my travels through the Lower Mainland this week though, not all bad.
Fido is screwing with my phone again. This time they sent me a text message on Thursday morning, saying that they wanted $6.82 right away or I would get a disruption of service. This is about three weeks after they phoned me with their “great news!” that I was to be put on an open ended plan to avoid this sort of thing because I was “such a good customer by always paying my bill on time”.
When I got home that evening, it was past 8:30 EST, so the $20 I put against my bill was to go through first thing Friday morning. I got a call from two neighbours before leaving for work about 9:30, so everything went through fine right? Nope, upon returning home the phone service was down and it was too late to contact their billing dept. in Montreal.
Nice quiet Friday night though! No phone calls usually means no need to go buzzing about the island, and I was asleep early – nice. Especially that today is going to be a busy day; helping out a bit next door, and Alice wants her puter looked at some more and Dee still needs a lot more tutoring on her new WinXP machine. Maybe get a Sunday afternoon nap in tomorrow?

A Witness to War

brrr

Tuesday, January 21st, 2003

Too tired for anything tonight after staying up to the wee hours last night with Dee. Cuppa joe over at the farm house and it’s lights out for me. Kinda feeling like winter tonight, if you could call the weather on Bowen winter that is – rest of the country is like -25° with wind to take it to -40°.

The grass is still green of course, and there are some new flowers poking up in the garden last week fooled by the extra warm couple days and the main rose bush has never stopped producing flowers.

SEVA Show

Saturday, January 18th, 2003

An excellent evening spent supporting the work of the Seva Canada Society in Tibet, India, Nepal, and Tanzania. The presentation at BICS, (Bowen Island Community School), was well received by about 200 audience members as we listened to Brian Harris narrate his photographs of the regions and the people that SEVA helps see again.

Thursday night, and anyone knowing my views on war and peace would appreciate this article from the UK: Times Online
