The smog and smoke just continues to hang over the ocean, blessed rain coming in a day or two. The deer have become fearless around the house, much like down at Collins Farm where they are used to having a human around. Something that has worked well is to look down when approaching or facing in their direction. Looking straight on is a sure way to them go the other way, and I’ve been able to walk past them while they continue munching on what little greenery they can find.
Still on the hunt for a house mate, you would think they would be pounding down the doors for a place to live all inclusive for $500/month on Bowen Island. The four wheel drive road and 74 steps has put everyone off so far, seems not a big deal to me but then I don’t have to go up and down them more than once a day at most. Parking is a problem too if you don’t have a 4×4 vehicle to get to the two parking spots that are available.

Back to Bowen Bytes, can only pontificate about war and such so much, before it gets really depressing. The smoke from Cypress Mountain getting a lightning strike yesterday and smoldering fire was still around this morning and air quality was bad, couldn’t see downtown Vancouver or UBC.
The late morning turned into a real ocean fogbank, thunder and lightning yesterday about the same time so getting a real mix of weather. The bees have been busy this season, with al sorts of remedies tossed around to keep them away. Best for the non-screened windows so far has been whole cloves spread generously on the open windowsill. When the smell from them dies down after a few days you can just crush a few between a couple spoons and your okay for another few days. Makes the house smell nice too.

With little fanfare, the Federal Reserve will begin transferring the U.S.’s money supply over an Internet-based system this month which will take the heat off us regular web programmers as any and every hacker in the world will be trying to break into that one.
Dumb idea right from the outset imho, it’s obstensibly to make it easier and in the same breath they say it’s because of the old DOS based system. There’s nothing better about having money move faster, now when it crashes it will be so swift, as the world has never seen before. Nothing wrong with DOS for that matter either if you don’t mind not seeing the pretty pictures and know how to type.
Of course things will recover, but will it be with the ones with the money having ever more power as the manipulations of the banking system and stock market in the past has proven is “do-able”.

There was more to Julia Child than just being a chef and celebrity, she was a scholar and activist too.
