Fedora Core 4 has been a winner for me, took a couple days to get everything the way I wanted it but that would be the same with Windows as well. The install was a breeze, downloading the ISO images took more time than anything, bitTorrent I think has been choked by Shaw cable lately and it runs real slow. Curl still works real well though for most stuff so not that big of a deal.
One annoying bug is that the Advanced Linux Sound Architecture (ALSA) doesn’t work that great for the Workstation Configuration. I’ve switched over everything I can find to the OSS mixers but still not working yet, not a big deal for me but would be a show stopper for someone that really needed to hear sound. Suspect this is something that will be fixed on the first go round of the version 4 updates, the test version is 5 so can’t be that far out.
Got the local dev server running this evening too, will get mysql up and running in the morning and the office is ready to go once more, got some catching up to do so some rent money comes rolling in. That’s the worst part of working for yourself for me, money remains for me a foreign concept that I just can’t wrap my head around as being a good thing.
