Still Summer

Friday, August 8th, 2008

Yowsa. busy little morning at the Snug Cafe! A smattering of rain for an hour starting at five o’clock this morning, barely enough to keep the ground wet for an hour afterwards. Crippen Park overnight for the first time, good place to have a cup of coffee before the shops open.

Another little bit of rain later in the morning, again the ground is drying up quickly from the sun starting to peek out from behind the clouds. Plants are sure loving it, and just a little cooler too for those doing the projects around the house on Saturday so it’s all good.

Glad I got a swim in yesterday, you never know on the west coast when summer going to decide to go away and then grey skies are the norm, water is cold enough as it is and need that full on sun to warm up quick like coming out. Janice came down with me and she talked for a couple hours about her past, made for an interesting afternoon.

Dock Dance 2008 Not Missed

Tuesday, August 5th, 2008

B.C. Day 2008 has come and gone, made the most of the nice weather and hiked to the top of Mt. Gardner doing both south and north summit via the Skid Trail. Lots of people up there, parking lot at the head of the trail was full and cars parked down below as well, but only saw a handful of them myself by taking the long route to the top. Will upload some pics to flickr soon.

Over the weekend the local fireman had their annual “Dock Dance“, had a ticket but ended up not going…waking up from a quick nap after supper and going outside for a smoke, the warm up band was already in full swing and it was *loud*. And it was also quite chilly way up there at the top of the island, so stayed put and watched the fireworks instead, which was nice too being able to look down at them from the top and no ringing ears in the morning.

A BBC day today, getting warmer finally and into the dog days of summer with the mercury getting to 32 (90F) in the shade by mid-afternoon. Feels real good to me, the decade spent in Arizona has me spoiled for warm weather and don’t mind sweating at all. Got lucky coming back to the Snug Cove too, a nice spot in the shade to cool off the van.
