The hilarious comedian, Margaret Cho, is on The Hour with George Stroumboulopoulos to discuss her vagina, her career, and her newest stand up tour, ‘Beautiful.’ Six minutes in GS asks about the wealth of political comedy material available right now, and like a couple of my brothers visiting from the states last year they felt embarrassed about how things are turning out, “…it’s so bad, just too awful, it’s embarrassing and not even funny anymore…”, reminiscent of Jon Stewart on Crossfire a few years ago.

Rest of the interview is pretty darn funny though, classic Cho introspection.

They are really banging the drum hard down south to have another war on tap, this time with Iran. All the same half truths and lies are being trotted out and like the Iraq lies about Nigerian yellowcake for example, easy enough to discredit in time. Some of them don’t need discrediting as with Iraq, for instance the false claim that the training bomb run by Israel last September into Syria was to actually blow up a nuclear reactor that was making bomb material. Like the article quoting the Syrian President Bashar says, it is ridiculous for anyone remotely familiar with nuclear plants that it would be built miles away from the water source needed to keep things cool, such as the Hanford reactor and others are.

This sort of thing is eaten up by the North American media as god’s given fact, and hi hi ho, it’s off to war we go, again.

Not sure how over the top this is, but certainly an odd location for putting refugees in, and the language reminds us of the prejudices that exist to this day down south.

And things aren’t going any better over at the dome either according to this post at the Liberty Forum. Some are talking directly back to the interlopers as Chaney gets told to go f*ck himself on this viral video.

Even the staid folks over at the Washington Post are jumping on the bandwagon with the headline: U.S. Censoring Katrina Coverage. Not so with our local rag, ever in lock step with the aggrandizement of corporations even on the backs of a disaster as Michael Fellman points out.

Here we go again, yet another neighbor complaining about where I am parking which is the only place there is without an extremely steep and long walk from the bottom of the hill on Eaglecliff Road. For $750 a month, that is just not worth it. The latest complainer said, “here, drive my van out of the driveway and see how difficult it is!”. So I did, at a fairly good clip to boot, and as any one that has ever backed up a van using their mirrors knows how to do. “There, how was that?” I said. “But what about at night?” he said, I didn’t have the heart to tell him that it’s even easier then because there isn’t anything to distract your view of the bright reflectors from my car in the mirrors then, and he was just a lousy driver.

Now when I hear the complaint, it sounds like “I don’t know how to drive this vehicle that I have”. Complainer also mentioned that he talked to the Police about my parking, it’s a private road (not his) and think he was stretching it when he said my car could be towed. I mentioned Oliver (who used to live here) told me he parked there all the time and the complaining neighbor said that he complained loudly then too, but nothing ever got towed. More worrisome, he said at one point, “what happens if I do hit your car by mistake”.

Well, I won’t be around long enough to find out just how bad of a driver he really is, gave my notice to the landlord for the end of the month. A place to live isn’t worth getting your insurance jacked up and car dented from bad neighbors that don’t know how to drive. After all, there are large 4 wheel drive trucks going by all the time and they don’t seem to have a problem getting by, there really is a ton of room for any driver. Haven’t found a new place yet, but as this is my umpteenth (41st) move in my lifetime, that isn’t anything new and can sleep in the car for a while if needed, oh well, won’t be the first time for that either

A surprise email yesterday from Jennifer; my step-daughter from almost twenty years ago found my web site, actually her brother Brian found it I think and contacted me. After her Mom died, the biological father and his mother took them back east right after the wake and did their best to cut the ties between myself and the kids.
She’s 30 now with three kids and after a bit of a rocky start with a not so nice guy, Jennifer is happily raising a family with a good man and trying not to work too much. A real lot like her Mom, but without the epilepsy to muck things up. Brian did the college thing, was working for a stock broker in Chicago but as he is in the Reserves he’s been called back to active duty. He’s been able to travel all over the world with the Service, but nervous times for him right now.
Jennifer remembered the Boyce Thompson Arboretum where I had spread Mary’s ashes by Ayer Lake, and had even visited in 1992. Living in Florida she doesn’t get back to Arizona much of course, but it was nice to be able to give her the exact location of her Mom. I think her Dad and Grandmother may have tried to convince the kids that she didn’t want to be cremated and put in a nice place, but Mary’s old friend Loretta was able to help I believe.
It sure is nice to hear that they are okay, they were not my biological children but when they went back east it was really a difficult time for me, as if I had lost my own. What’s that politically correct term now, closure. But every time a door closes a new one opens eh?
